The battle for the internet continues

So with SOPA and PIPA forgotten about (kind of) and ACTA out of the headlines, there’s another bill threatening our internet, and overall, our freedoms and civil liberties. That’s CISPA.

I’m not going to make a long post explaining it, and giving commentry, there’s plenty of other sources for that online if you make a quick Google search. I just want to post this rather inspiring TED lecture by Rick Falkvinge of The Pirate Party. He uses a Futurama quote.

A little bit of news

So it’s been a short while since my last post about the project I’ve been working on for the past few months, Mimir.

Since that last post there has been a few exciting developments.

Firstly the app is now available on the iTunes App Store. As it’s designed for using inside galleries and exhibitions there isn’t a huge about you can do with it without being at one where it’s in use, but it’s a huge milestone for the project to have it accepted by Apple and be available to download.

The link for that is here.

Secondly, I have been invited to showcase the app at two events at Middlesex University, the first is the North London Higher Education Fair where I will be presenting it to 160 prospective students who will be using it to find out information about student’s work on show on the day.

The second event is the Young Scientist and Engineering Competition as part of National Science Week, where I will be on hand to demonstrate the app to young people and talk about the project with them.

You’ll find them events here:

Finally, the system was in use over the last week at an exhibition in Mile End called Breeze, which was showing the work of MA Fine Art students at Middlesex University. This was the first trial of the app and the system. The event went rather well and there was a huge amount of interest in the project.

There is mention of the system in use there here.
